ChatGPT and the Future of Analytics Engineering

ChatGPT, an advanced generative AI model developed by OpenAI, is transforming various fields including software development and data and analytics engineering.

In this session we will explore the potential of generative AI models to complement or even replace traditional analytics engineers and consultants, based on our experiences using ChatGPT-4 and other LLM (Large Language Model) technologies within Rittman Analytics, a UK-based modern data stack consultancy. Through a series of real-world tasks and challenges, we will evaluate ChatGPT’s capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses in handling schema definition, dbt package creation, data deduplication and integration, highlighting where it adds value but also where human expertise and guidance is still required.

Mark Rittman is CEO of Rittman Analytics, a dbt partner and modern data stack consultancy based in Brighton, UK. Mark has 20+ years of database, data engineering and analytics consulting experience, hosts the Drill to Detail Podcast and is the author of two books on Oracle Business & In-Memory Intelligence.
