DuckDB: From Research Project to Enterprise Database System

Abstract
DuckDB was first introduced at the Budapest Data Forum 5 years ago. In the years since, it became a mainstream project that's used as a building block in many data science and data engineering application.
In this talk, Gábor will give a retrospective overview of the last 5 years. He talks about the project's key milestones (such as the v1.0.0 release), partnerships and also discuss a few challenges we encountered along the way.
Finally, he'll talk about our 2025 roadmap with a particular emphasis on data lake formats.

Gábor Szárnyas obtained his PhD in software engineering in 2019 and spent 3 years as a post-doctoral researcher at CWI in Amsterdam, working on graph data management techniques.
